The free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Pennsylvania College of Technology students help local residents prepare income-tax returns, is taking its services "on the road" to the college's North Campus near Wellsboro. The program will be offered by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 28.

Industry representatives from around the United States and Canada participated in the inaugural Commercial Modular Installation and Site Management Course at Pennsylvania College of Technology, a joint venture of the Factory Built Housing Center at Penn College and the Modular Building Institute, Charlottesville, Va.

Adults (55 and older) who want to learn more about using computers for fun and convenience may enroll in a noncredit course being offered in March at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro. The easy beginners' class, which is offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, introduces the computer for enjoyment purposes.

For those who have little or no understanding of the Spanish language and want to learn in a fun and relaxed setting, a Spanish for Fun and Conversation class will be offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro. Classes will be held on Thursdays − from 6:30 to 8 p.m. − Feb. 21 to May 1.

For those wishing to sharpen their computer skills and avoid winter boredom, Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will offer several easy-to-learn computer courses beginning in February. The courses are taught by qualified instructors at a comfortable pace for all levels of adult learners. The small, noncredit classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Practical Nursing Program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus recently held a graduation ceremony for 22 students. The student-selected speakers for the Dec. 20 event were Robin Crosby, a registered nurse at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, and Carol Kopp, a registered nurse at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. An initiative that has trained weatherization agencies and other technicians for more than two decades has been awarded federal funding to continue its timely mission of reduced energy consumption, health, safety and comfort for residential and commercial clients alike.

Pennsylvania College of Technology was well-represented at Autodesk University 2007, held Nov. 27-30 in Las Vegas. Autodesk University is the world's largest annual gathering of computer aided design and related professionals, with more than 10,000 working professionals, industry experts and Autodesk executives in attendance.

The Practical Nursing Program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro has been accepted as a candidate for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. By seeking NLNAC accreditation, the program will undergo a rigorous self-examination and re-evaluation process for the purpose of improving educational quality.

The Plastics Manufacturing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology has received a contract to help Thomas Howard Associates, Schwenksville, develop a new product for basement finishing.
