The noncredit course "Introduction to American Sign Language" will be offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays from Oct. 30 through Nov. 20. The class will meet in the college's Center for Business & Workforce Development, 1127 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.

Grant funding has doubled for a successful pilot program to certify employees in Pennsylvania's plastics industry, allowing Pennsylvania College of Technology's Plastics Manufacturing Center, which administers the program through a special contract agreement with the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp., to expand the number of companies and employees participating.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus has received two grants totaling more than $30,000 to award scholarships to participants in the next class of its Practical Nursing Program, which will begin in January.

The next medical assistant class at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus − in which participants receive training for a variety of entry-level medical-office positions such as transcriptionist, billing and insurance clerk, office technician, information or personnel clerk, and phlebotomist − is scheduled to begin Aug. 28.

The School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies' plastics department and the Workforce Development & Continuing Education department's Plastics Manufacturing Center joined for an All Plastics Day on May 3. During the morning, PMC Advisory Board members were invited to senior-project presentations by six students in the plastics and polymer engineering technology major.

Pennsylvania College of Technology was recently awarded a $200,000 Keystone Innovation Grant by the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Following an address in Hershey by Gov. Edward G. Rendell to Keystone Innovation Center stakeholders, Rebecca Bagley, deputy secretary for technology investment for DCED, announced the grant award to Penn College.

Penn College students placed first and third in the second annual Quad College & University Business Plan Challenge, exiting the Community Theatre League with a total of $15,000 in prize money Tuesday afternoon.
