Nearly 290 students have petitioned to graduate following the Fall 2024 semester at Pennsylvania College of Technology. A commencement ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Community Arts Center. The ceremony, which will be livestreamed, is open to students who are registered to participate and ticketed guests; 188 students are expected to march.

The Dunham Children’s Learning Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology received a $6,000 Keystone Stars Continuous Quality Improvement grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through STEP Inc. Keystone Stars is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning to improve, support and recognize the quality of Pennsylvania’s early learning and school-age programs.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, for George Franklin Blett III, a former Pennsylvania College of Technology employee who died on Nov. 23 at the age of 76. Blett served as coordinator of disability services from 1999 to 2003. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, where funeral services will begin at 1 p.m.

WNEP-TV’s Jon Meyer visited campus on Monday to produce an “On the Pennsylvania Road” segment regarding the 1948 Tucker restored by Pennsylvania College of Technology students. One of those students is Ty M. Tucker, of Columbia, the great-great grandson of Preston Tucker, the legendary automotive figure responsible for the car. The segment is scheduled to air Wednesday during WNEP’s 6 p.m. newscast.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Esports program has won its first championship. The Overwatch 2 team captured the Fall 2024 National Association of Collegiate Esports Varsity+ championship, beating the University of North Carolina–Greensboro 3-1 in the final match and finishing with a 7-1 season.

Two Penn College employees were honored as nominees in Northcentral PA YWCA's 16th annual Women of Excellence Award Ceremony, held recently at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. Tanya Berfield, director of student advocacy and Title IX coordinator, and Angela L. Stackhouse, head coach of softball, were among 21 Women of Excellence nominees.

A chilly November evening didn’t deter fun-seekers and dedicated runners who turned out for the recent Wildcat Campus 5K Glow Walk/Run, supporting Penn College’s chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society. A total of 98 people registered, and $1,902 was raised to support academic excellence.

Handcrafted wooden masks created by Penn College students enrolled in Wood Sculpture are on display in the lobby of The Gallery at Penn College. The students’ talents complement the gallery’s current exhibition of woodcarvings by Mary Michael Shelley. Both exhibits are available for viewing through Tuesday, Nov. 26. Remaining hours are: Noon to 4 p.m. Friday; 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday; and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. (Monday visits can be made by appointment by emailing gallery@pct.edu.)

Keeping up with the whirlwind of events on campus this fall has been a tall order. Among the fun and informative activities staged recently by Residence Life were “Tipsy Turns” and “Planting Your Success.” Partnering with Penn College Police and Career Services, respectively, Residence Life stirred awareness and success.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, for Patricia J. Rambo, a retired Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member and recipient of the Master Teacher Award. Rambo died Nov. 19, at the age of 85. The service will begin at 11 a.m. at Greenview Alliance Church, 1955 Warrensville Road, Montoursville. Visitation is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville.
