An emergency management and homeland security instructor at Pennsylvania College of Technology delivered the keynote address at the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units’ School Safety and Security Coordinators Seminar, held recently at The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center in State College. “School safety is a passion of mine,” said William A. Schlosser.
Laura A. Snyder, of Harrisburg, a May graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s landscape/plant production technology major, has attained Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist status after passing the formal exam required for certification. The PCH exam was administered on the last day of finals in early May by Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture at Penn College. Snyder passed all four sections of the intensive test.
A reception for “Books Undone 2: The Art of Altered Books” was enjoyed by nearly 100 people on Sunday. The national juried exhibition is on display through July 21 in The Gallery at Penn College. Awards were presented to six of the 41 exhibiting artists from 20 states.
Patrick Marty, the college's chief government and international relations officer, and Michael Stefan, a Penn State administrator and member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors, are among the leaders named to The 2024 Trailblazers in Higher Education list, released Tuesday by City & State PA.
Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Chef Charles R. Niedermyer recently led an eight-hour class for artisan baking professionals at the Bread Bakers Guild of America’s annual Camp Bread, held over three days in Providence, Rhode Island. Niedermyer’s class was among those featured in Bake Magazine's coverage of the event.
As part of the spring semester’s finale events, Penn College hosted an Excellence in Student Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony to honor 11 graduating students who distinguished themselves by their high academic achievement, quality leadership and exemplary service.
The video “A 30-Year Anniversary Nearly 100 Years in the Making: The Community Arts Center” won a bronze Telly Award in the 45th annual competition. The Pennsylvania College of Technology entry earned its Telly in the Non-Broadcast – Arts & Culture category. Penn College owns and operates the Community Arts Center, a cultural cornerstone for the region, located on West Fourth Street in downtown Williamsport.
For the ninth year, Penn College has received notification of its Tree Campus Higher Education designation, and students celebrated by planting trees (Japanese snowbell and Snow Fountain weeping cherry) at the college's Schneebeli Earth Science Center in honor of Arbor Day.
Pennsylvania College of Technology students reaped the benefits of their hands-on education and tireless dedication by finishing fourth out of 89 cars in the Baja SAE Williamsport endurance race, the international competition’s premier event. Overall, the team placed 10th out of the 102 teams competing. Those teams consisted of about 1,800 students representing colleges and universities from throughout the United States, Canada and Brazil.
