The race is on! The “Tipsy Turns” obstacle course (complete with large tricycles) attracts enthusiastic interest in Rose Street Commons. The event was organized by Residence Life, with the assistance of Penn College Police.

Keeping up with the whirlwind of events on campus this fall has been a tall order. Among the fun and informative activities staged recently by Residence Life were “Tipsy Turns” and “Planting Your Success.”

Partnering with Penn College Police, Residence Life aimed to inform students of the effects and consequences of drug and alcohol use and abuse. “Tipsy Turns” provided an obstacle course to be navigated wearing vision-impairing “drunk goggles.” The state Department of Transportation brought its DUI simulator and Penn College Police Lieutenant Fletcher W. Farr performed field sobriety tests. All activities were designed to increase alcohol and drug awareness. College Police Officer Catherine J. Farr was also on hand to offer a self-defense demonstration.

“Planting Your Success” saw a turnout of 111 students who were encouraged to pot a succulent and talk about their future dreams and goals. For this event, Residence Life partnered with Career Services. Students were given handouts with questions they could ask potential employers at the upcoming Career Fair. Wildcats also had the opportunity order student business cards and get a professional headshot for their LinkedIn profiles.

Both events offered that all-important student magnet: Free food and refreshments!

Also this semester, Residence Life hosted the annual trick-or-treat evening at The Village. Over 300 families attended, mingling with student residents and receiving sweet treats along the way. Club House Concessions, operated by construction management student Jason Wiedl, of West Pittston, was also present, passing out cake pops and hot dogs. A craft table for coloring pictures, painting pumpkins, and making potions and bracelets was also part of the seasonal celebration.
