Men's and women's basketball teams, the men's volleyball team and archers all saw action last week for Pennsylvania College of Technology. While it marked the start of the season for archery and volleyball, the basketball players are headed into the final two weeks of their regular seasons.
With 1,430 points, senior Greg Solyak has sealed his place at the top of the Penn College men's basketball all-time leading scorers list. Solyak achieved the honor against Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Thursday night. He only needed 15 points to capture the title; he ended up scoring 18. Alumnus Joe Simon, who graduated last year, previously held the honor with 1,425 points.
Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams return to Penn State University Athletic Conference action this week after a week during which they each went 0-3 against non-league opponents. Barring the unforeseen, senior Greg Solyak (Lititz) should eclipse the college men's career scoring record some time during the week.
The student team jumped out quickly in Wednesday's annual basketball game en route to a 55-44 victory against its staff/faculty rivals. How high can they climb? After finishing fourth in the nation in 2008, third in 2009 and second last year, the Pennsylvania College of Technology coed archery team is poised to take it all this season. "I was very excited last year. I thought it was going to be our No. 1 year. The downfall was we were lacking a women's recurve team.

Men's Basketball Solid defensive play in the second half at Penn State Scranton Wednesday paid off with a 72-66 win.
Penn College junior Leroy Joiner, of Williamsport, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Division II Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 16. In a 1-1 week for the Wildcats, Joiner averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, while shooting .545 from the field. In both games, he recorded "double-doubles" to bring his season total to 11.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, Penn College kicked off the return of wrestling with a full day of related activities. The Wildcats' "Wrestling Day" included a clinic with guest clinician Mark McKnight, a Pennsylvania State University resident athlete, followed by an intrasquad meet.
