Four members of the Penn State University Athletic Conference-championship Pennsylvania College of Technology men's soccer team earned First Team All-Conference honors and Chris Brennan (New Hope) was named Newcomer of the Year. Brennan also was a first-team honoree, along with Seth Rearick (Watsontown), Patrick Masango (Cameroon) and Tristan Smith (Bermuda).
Seniors Russell Blankenship, Tamara Pavlov and Ashley Hetrick were honored during halftime of Thursday's women's basketball home opener as graduating members of the Penn College cross-country team. Blankenship, an environmental technology management major from New Florence, has been a member of the team for four years, with his senior year being his best performance season.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams opened their seasons Thursday at home against Central Penn College with split results: the men lost, 72-63, and the women won, 75-44. FLASHBACK Men Junior Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) scored 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Phil Kaylor (Lebanon) added 11 points. The Wildcats shot just 37 percent from the field.
An intramural flag football team traveled to Lycoming College to face its crosstown rival Wednesday and walked away with a 19-12 win. On the opening drive, Lycoming converted two fourth downs to take an early 6-0 lead. Not to be outdone, Penn College responded nicely, as Travis Williams hauled in a long pass from Paul McGinn on fourth down to keep the drive alive.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams open their seasons Thursday hosting Central Penn College at Bardo Gymnasium. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8.
A number of Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports student-athletes have received postseason honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Earning All-American honors in addition to men's cross-country runner Jake Shedden (freshman/Canton), who finished second in the USCAA individual championship, was women's soccer player Kierstin Steer (sophomore/South Williamsport).
Pennsylvania College of Technology teams fared well over the weekend, with a fourth-place finish by the men's cross-country squad and top-four finish by the men's soccer team in United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology Athletics Department has announced the return of collegiate wrestling to campus for the 2010-11 season. This will be the first time wrestling has been available at Penn College; it was offered at Williamsport Area Community College from 1968-83.
