Fresh off Wednesday's Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championships, in which its women finished first and men second, the Pennsylvania College of Technology bowling team is in action this weekend with state titles on the line.
With the Penn State University Athletic Conference North Division title already under its belt, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's basketball team enters the playoffs as the No. 2 seed. At 3 p.m. Saturday, the Wildcats (12-3 in the conference and 13-12 overall) will host No. 7 Penn State Brandywine (8-7, 9-15) at Bardo Gymnasium on West Third Street in a PSUAC quarterfinal game.
On Tuesday, Pennsylvania College of Technology honored graduating members of its men's and women's basketball and dance teams. Eight student-athletes were recognized and honored for dedication and hard work on their teams' behalf. The night began with recognition of women's basketball seniors Kierstin Steer and Samantha Wallish.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams, with Penn State University Athletic Conference records of 10-3 and 6-6, respectively, are headed for the playoffs Saturday. Their opponents, game times and sites will be decided later in the week. The men have the second-best record in the conference, behind Penn State Beaver, and continue to lead the North Division.
The Penn College archery team will be featured this weekend on "The Great Outdoors," a regional production for which members were filmed and interviewed during competition at the Bloomsburg Expo on Jan. 27. The feature will be broadcast on Fox 56 from 7:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, and from 7:30-8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, on MyNetworkTV. It also will be streamed on the show's website.
At halftime of Wednesday's Wildcat men's basketball game against Penn State Scranton, it was the Loyalsock Little Lancers' turn to play an intersquad scrimmage before a Bardo Gymnasium crowd. The sixth-grade boys played for 10 minutes, with the maroon team defeating the white team by a 12-to-6 score.
Penn College senior Greg Solyak (Lititz) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 6. Solyak averaged 23 points in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats. In the win over No. 9 Penn State Wilkes-Barre, he broke the Penn College men's basketball all-time scoring record.
The Loyalsock Little Lady Lancers played an intersquad scrimmage at halftime of Saturday's Penn College women's basketball game against Penn State DuBois. The sixth-grade girls played an enjoyable 10 minutes of basketball in Bardo Gymnasium, with the maroon team winning 8-0.
In the second day of theUnited States Collegiate Athletic Association Wrestling Championships at Penn State DuBois, the Penn College team took home some hardware with three Wildcat wrestlers earning accolades. Following Friday's dual-meet competition, Saturday's events focused on individual wrestlers.
Men's and women's basketball teams, the men's volleyball team and archers all saw action last week for Pennsylvania College of Technology. While it marked the start of the season for archery and volleyball, the basketball players are headed into the final two weeks of their regular seasons.
