Over the past week, Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling teams all saw action with no interruptions.
Pennsylvania College of Technology winter sports teams had a slow week to start the new year. The women’s basketball team went 1-1 with one game canceled, the men’s basketball team went 0-1 with one cancellation and one postponement, and the wrestling team withdrew from its scheduled competition in the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College.
After their holiday break, Pennsylvania College of Technology winter sports teams are set to get back into action as the men’s and women’s basketball squads return to the hardcourt with games Sunday and Monday, respectively, and the wrestlers will be back on the mats Friday and Saturday (Jan. 7-8) in the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College.
On Monday at Lycoming College in the Rennie Roadarmel Allstate Duals, the Wildcats went 2-2 with wins over King’s College, 25-19, and New Jersey City University, 29-22, and losses to SUNY Cortland, 30-6, and the host team, 27-17, as their record went to 2-3. Even the loss to Lycoming was a bright spot as it marked the first points they ever have scored in a match against the Warriors.
Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers are ready for a long Monday when they take to the mats at Lycoming College in the Rennie Roadarmel Allstate Duals. Wildcat grapplers will face four opponents (SUNY Cortland, King’s College, Lycoming College and New Jersey City University) in matches at noon, 1:30, 3 and 6 p.m., respectively.
Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams closed out the fall semester portion of their schedules with losses on Saturday in nonconference action, while on Sunday, the college’s wrestlers came out on the short end in their dual-match opener. Men’s basketball Hosting Clarks Summit University, the Wildcats fell behind 44-29 at the half and lost, 80-67, to drop to 1-7 overall.
Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams both posted wins in their United East Conference season openers last week, while wrestling coach Jamie Miller had praise for his team’s showing at an invitational.
In five previous outings since 2014 against crosstown rival Lycoming College, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team lost by an average of 30 points per game. But that all changed on Tuesday. Hosting the Warriors at Bardo Gym, the Wildcats put together their most complete game in the series before falling, 54-46.
During season-ending races on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Cross-Country Championships in Newville, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men placed 27th and the women 30th. Individually for the Wildcats, Alec Rees was 149th for the men and Cinnamon Digan was 190th for the women.
Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams both made important strides during their last competitive seasons in 2019-20 and, after sitting out last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are eager to pick up where they left off.
