Preparation and composure. Those two things are the keys in a season that – for the first time – propelled the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s softball team to the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship and into the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional tournament.
Unchartered territory. That, in a sense, is what the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s golf team will be stepping onto Tuesday when it becomes the college’s first to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships. A second practice round is scheduled Monday with competition over the following four days on Speidel Golf Club’s Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones Sr.
On the heels of North Eastern Athletic Conference playoff runs by the men’s golf team and men’s and women’s tennis teams, Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball, softball and men’s lacrosse squads all punched their postseason tickets over the past week.
Conference team champion. Individual co-champion and Golfer of the Year. Coach of the Year. It can’t get much better for the Pennsylvania College of Technology golf team. Yet maybe it can, as it also became the college’s first team to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Regular-season play for Pennsylvania College of Technology golf and tennis teams began just two weeks ago and – because of pared-down schedules due to the coronavirus pandemic – by this week’s end, their seasons will be over.
During a week in which the weather was most cooperative, all six Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports teams saw action and four posted wins, including a program-first in men’s lacrosse. After being idled by the pandemic last spring and fall, Pennsylvania College of Technology golf and men’s and women’s tennis teams are more than ready to get going again. The golf season is scheduled to start Wednesday when Lycoming College and Susquehanna University square off with the Wildcats at Williamsport Country Club while the tennis season begins Saturday at Lancaster Bible College.
More than a year after their last competitive NCAA Division III games, it would be an understatement to say that the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball and softball teams are eager to get back into action. Both squads are scheduled to open at home Saturday – baseball hosting Penn State Harrisburg in a 1 p.m.

Relieved. Pumped. Grateful. Excited. Anticipation. They were the one-word reactions expressed by Pennsylvania College of Technology coaches after it was announced Feb. 26 that spring sports competition would resume for their teams.
