Harvesting food from an art gallery? That’s exactly what is taking place on Pennsylvania College of Technology’s campus, thanks to a unique collaboration by The Gallery at Penn College and Dining Services. “Community Hydroponic Garden” is one of the displays in the gallery’s current exhibition – “Food Justice: Growing a Healthier Community Through Art.” The working garden utilizes distilled water and ceramic containers to grow kale that can be harvested to share and enjoy.
On their first day in her Global Cuisines & Connections course, Chef Mary G. Trometter, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts, took students to The Gallery at Penn College, where they explored the current exhibit: “Food Justice: Growing a Healthier Community Through Art.”
The Gallery at Penn College begins its 18th season of artistic engagement by focusing on food justice and will close the 2023-24 academic year with an exhibition of altered books.
An 18-foot American chestnut sculpture, crafted by noteworthy sculptor Jon Bogle, now graces the atrium of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. Bogle, professor emeritus of Lycoming College, recently donated the sculpture to Penn College, which maintains more than 300 works of art in its Art on Campus collection.
Many visitors drove many miles this past Sunday to view more than 100 works of art created by area artists. The reception for “100 Miles: The 2023 Regional Juried Exhibition” drew nearly 300 art lovers to The Gallery at Penn College, a crowd that included 90 of the 101 featured artists.
“100 Miles: The 2023 Regional Juried Exhibition” opens Thursday, June 1, at The Gallery at Penn College, showcasing artwork by 101 artists living within 100 miles of the Pennsylvania College of Technology campus.
The graphic design major celebrated two significant campus events in recent days, with more than 200 people attending a reception for “Graphic Design 2023” and with nearly 100 high school students and teachers visiting Pennsylvania College of Technology for the inaugural Graphic Design Senior Project Exhibition.
“Moving the Earth, Capturing the Sun” is the title of a one-student exhibit on display in the lobby of The Gallery at Penn College. The exhibit showcases ceramics and photography by Alexis M. Burrell, a senior in graphic design at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The talents of 24 graphic design seniors at Pennsylvania College of Technology will be showcased in “Graphic Design 2023,” the annual student portfolio exhibition in The Gallery at Penn College.
Architecture & sustainable design seniors presented their capstone projects this past week in The Gallery at Penn College, among the final rites of passages in the dash to commencement.
