Students fromRichard C. Taylor's ACR 127 (Prints, Drawings and Specifications) class toured the Fairfield Inn construction site Thursday. Prior to walking across Maynard Street from campus, the class viewed blueprints of the building, paying special attention to the foundation, floor plans, utility entrances, HVAC and plumbing plans.
Josh Lodge of Montrose was selected as September's "Resident Assistant of the Month" for his sincere compassion for residents, above-average work and his overall leadership to the Rose Street RA staff. A Construction Management major and active member of the Construction Management Association, Lodge is in his second year at Penn College.
The Aviation Club participated in an "FOD" prevention walk Thursday, hoping to avert the "Foreign Object Damage" that can occur when a jet engine ingests items from the runway. The students walked the length of both runways at Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville, and removed anything that could damage an aircraft.
United Campus Ministry, a newly forming student organization, will have its first meeting Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in BTC, Room 122. UCM will be a multidenominational group whose purpose will be to act as a bridge between the campus and the wider community, especially the local churches of Lycoming County.
Two students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Floral Design/Interior Plantscape major took top honors at the Pennsylvania Floral Industry Association's Floral Expo on Oct. 17. Michael R. Merlino, Carlisle, placed first and Melissa A. Sitlinger, Herndon RR 1, placed second in the Student Design competition at the event, which was sponsored by PFIA and FTD.
More than 70 employers have registered for Fall Career Expo, a major networking event for job-seeking students, scheduled for 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21,at the Field House. Angela D. Rymer, a junior Business Administration-Marketing major from Jersey Shore, has been chosen as the Student Government Association's "Student of the Month" for October. Active on and off campus, Rymer is vice president of the Penn College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, a national organization for students preparing for careers in business.
Rachel S. Hall, a Resident Assistant at The Village at Penn College, has been named Resident Assistant of the Month for August. Hall, who hails from Altoona, is a third-year student working toward a bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts Technology with an associate's degree in Dietary Manager Technology.
Congratulations to Resident Assistant Erin Y. Kingsley, who was selected for one of10 spots as a Student Volunteer for the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers'Conference in Wheeling, W.Va., Oct.19-22. The MACUHO region encompasses all colleges and universities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
For the second consecutive year, Pennsylvania College of Technology's Nursing Program has received a grant from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation to help students pay for college expenses. The program was awarded $54,000 last year, and it received $100,000 from PHEF this year.
