The Countdown to the Centennial has begun with the publication of a new booklet featuring images and text from the 2009 retrospective, "Were You There? The Evolution of a College Campus." "Students Helping Students Succeed" is the slogan that has driven fundraising efforts by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association for the past four years, and those efforts have paid off with a fully endowed scholarship fund for Penn College students. The Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund surpassed $25,000 at the end of the 2009-10 academic year.

Members of a family well-known in the Williamsport area business community have established another scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology. George E. and Patricia B. Girio and Joseph T. and Cheryl B. Girio recently established the Girio Family Scholarship Fund at Penn College.

The 10th annual School of Natural Resources Management Golf Outing dawned cloudy and wet, but, as participants started play, the rain stopped and a great day of competition began on the 18-hole Challenge course at the White Deer Golf Complex. Sixty golfers participated in the scholarship fundraising event on July 14, 16 of them current or retired college employees.

A Hughesville High School senior is the recipient of the 2010 Peggy Madigan Memorial Leadership Scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Kristina Kline, of Muncy, was presented with the scholarship award named in honor of the late wife of former state Sen. Roger A. Madigan at a Thursday ceremony in the college Field House.

The John Deere Foundation has provided Pennsylvania College of Technology with another grant of $12,000 to support scholarships for students in the college's welding and fabrication engineering technology bachelor-degree major and welding technology associate-degree major in 2010-11.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Inc. Board of Directors recently designated funds to establish a new scholarship and increase the amount of an existing scholarship in honor and memory of one of Williamsport's best-known families.

More than 100 walkers and runners participated in the first School of Health Sciences 5K Endowed Scholarship Race at Pennsylvania College of Technology on April 17. The event was organized by faculty and staff in the college's School of Health Sciences to raise funds for students pursuing degrees in the school. Event winners were: K.C. Shaner, a 2000 Penn College alumnus, top male runner.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association invites the Williamsport community to its Silent Auction from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in Penn's Inn, located on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center. Items up for bid include packages, artwork, services and various other donations from community businesses and Penn College students, faculty and staff.
