Scholarship Established in Memory of Beloved Pastry Chef

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

The family of a Pennsylvania College of Technology alumna who was a well-known pastry chef in Williamsport has established a scholarship fund at the college in her memory.

The Barbara Johnson Memorial Pastry Arts Scholarship will provide annual awards to students in Penn College's baking and pastry arts associate-degree major. The scholarship fund was recently established by Barbara Johnson's daughter Becky Johnson Yeagle and Becky's husband, Scott. The family plans to endow the fund over time, making it a perpetual source of scholarship awards.

Barbara Johnson was well-known for her wedding cakes. She graduated from Penn College in 1992 with a degree in individual studies. She died in December 2006 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

"We are grateful for Becky and Scott's generous support of our students," said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "It is fitting that Mrs. Johnson's memory will be honored in a way that helps others pursue their dream in the career field that she loved so much."

Becky and Scott Yeagle will host a dinner and dance at 33 East on Saturday, Nov. 6, to raise funds for the scholarship. The event at the restaurant on East Third Street in Williamsport will include an auction and entertainment provided by Mike Caschera. Tickets are $50 per person or $90 per couple, with proceeds going to the Barbara Johnson Memorial Pastry Arts Scholarship.
