Campus Fundraisers Boost Memorial Scholarship

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

A total of $2,420 was collected in several one-day fundraisers to benefit the Tracy A. Garis Memorial Scholarship Fund , which honors a dental hygiene student who died in a June 4 car accident. On behalf of the student body, the Student Government Association thanks all Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty, staff and students for their support toward thisworthy cause.

The college and SGA sponsored a faculty/staff "Dress-Down Day" on Nov. 5 that raised $680 toward the scholarship fund. Along with the 136 employees who donned casual garb for the day, the Penn College Wildcat walked around campus with collection can and toothbrush in hand to thank participating employees. Members of the Penn College community contributed to the fund by dropping change into the mascot's donation can. By the end of the day, the Wildcat collected $240!

The Sigma Pi Fraternity added $1,500 to the fund that evening through its 24-hour Rock-a-Thon, in which the colony of brothers rocked in rocking chairs for 24 hours straight in remembrance of their late classmate. Donations were accepted to benefit the scholarship fund, and the fraternity brothers thank businesses and private donors for their additional support.
