“Graphic Design 2024” opens April 24 at The Gallery at Penn College and runs through May 3. The annual student portfolio exhibition showcases the work of graduating seniors in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s graphic design major. A reception honoring the students is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 26.

Artwork created by Gerald G. Kaplan, instructor of ceramics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, is on display through April 27 in a national juried exhibition at the Saratoga Clay Arts Center’s Schacht Gallery in Schuylerville, New York.

Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design alumni captured nine awards in AIGA Baltimore’s 2023 nationwide Flux Student Design Competition. The seven alumni who were honored created their designs during their senior year and graduated in 2023.

“Black and white photography is alive and well!” heralded Mark W. Wilson, instructor of graphic design at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Proving the point, Wilson’s Fine Art Photography (PHO 210) class is exhibiting works on the second floor of The Madigan Library.

Wood engravings crafted by David M. Moyer, assistant professor of graphic design at Pennsylvania College of Technology, continue to garner attention, as the faculty member recently added two exhibitions to his extensive roster of art shows. “Utopia,” an accordion-fold book featuring original calligraphy and 16 wood engravings, was selected for The Book as Art exhibition at Decatur Library in Georgia, and three of Moyer's wood engravings were accepted into a gallery show in Bulgaria.

Two new exhibits of student work from instructor Joanna Yoder's Digital Photography course are available for yearend viewing in The Madigan Library and at the Community Arts Center. “I had the pleasure of working with a very energetic and creative group of students ... this semester," Yoder said. "It was wonderful to witness the camaraderie and teamwork in this unique group of students who often challenged and encouraged each other to push themselves to take creative risks."

A new course in visual literacy was highlighted by two Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design faculty members – Brian A. Flynn and David M. Moyer – at the 55th Annual Conference of the International Visual Literacy Association, hosted recently online and in person by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Appropriate for this time of year, The Clay Center of New Orleans is exhibiting “Creep Show 2023,” featuring artwork created by Gerald G. Kaplan, instructor of ceramics at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Kaplan’s “Drape,” a stoneware head detailed with screws, was selected for the national juried group exhibition. This is the third time one of Kaplan’s pieces has been accepted into the annual “Creep Show,” which began in 2019.

Photographs by Joanna Knox Yoder, instructor of photography at Pennsylvania College of Technology, have been selected for exhibition in three juried shows – one in South Carolina and two in Georgia.
