Nothing foretells the end of the semester and the start of finals quite like the campus tradition of “Midnight Breakfast.” Thursday evening, 425 Penn College students braved spring rains to pile up stacks of pancakes, donuts, ice cream and other treats in Dauphin Hall’s Capitol Eatery.

Penn College Dining Services’ second annual “Race Against Hunger” raised over $600 for The Cupboard at Penn College, the food pantry for students in need of food assistance. Participants enjoyed a Kentucky Derby-themed menu, featuring bourbon flank steak and mint julep mocktails.

A quiet act of kindness was captured last week during Spring Break. Brenda M. Kline, office assistant to counseling services, was making her way to The Cupboard, Penn College’s food pantry for students in need of food assistance, with a cartload of food to donate in observance of her 37th work anniversary at the institution.

Dining Services partnered with Penn College resident assistants to host a Tasting Showcase. Dining Services cooks prepared several items focused on plant-based food options and Pennsylvania-sourced ingredients. Participants were asked to complete a survey to indicate what items they may be interested in seeing on college menus.

Wildcats are not shy about showing their affections – especially when it comes to food and bingo! Among the mid-February events captured by Penn College student photographer Anna E. Reed: a “Sweetheart Pajama Party” and a “Pack the Pantry” Bingo.

The Cupboard, the Penn College pantry for students who need food assistance, is available over the holiday break. Dining Services provides the following hours: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thurs. Dec. 17, walk-in access is available; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6-10, students can email The Cupboard to make an appointment; and 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11-12, students can visit The Wildcat Express for assistance.

Everyone loves leftovers, right? As we close out Fall 2024, here are a few events photographed this semester by Student Photographer Matt B. Deane, who is graduating in mechatronics technology.

’Twas the night before finals, when just across campus, students were stirring, polishing off pancakes. So begins the tale of Midnight Breakfast – the eagerly anticipated culinary kick-off to finals week.

The seventh annual Soup for the Soul event, benefitting The Cupboard at Penn College, raised over $1,350. Hosted by Dining Services on Oct. 24 in the area outside the Wildcat Express and The Cupboard’s main location in the Bush Campus Center, the fundraiser also featured tours of the food pantry that serves Penn College students facing food insecurity.

Over 650 students descended on Capitol Eatery in Dauphin Hall last week to partake in a favorite Penn College campus tradition – Midnight Breakfast. Dining Services also presented other tasty delights leading up to finals and free study-break treats. Navigating the end-of-academic-year pressures never tasted so good!
