Penn College Dining Services’ second annual “Race Against Hunger” took place in CC Commons on April 16. The event raised over $600 for The Cupboard at Penn College, the food pantry for students in need of food assistance.
Participants enjoyed a Kentucky Derby-themed menu, featuring bourbon flank steak and mint julep mocktails. To add to the fun, those who purchased a meal, made a monetary donation or donated non-perishable food items to The Cupboard received tickets to drop into the competing horses' paper bags in an attempt to predict the winner. At the end of the event, a winning horse was randomly drawn, and prizes of roses or bourbon balls were selected by the lucky “betters.”
The 10 horses in this year’s lineup were: Bullet Proof Pletz, Hasselhoofs Hampton, Moonshine Mystery Moore, Need for Speed Reed, Once in a Blue Moon Myers, Rowdy Rissel, Tangled in the Webb, Thunder Chuckle Crews, Waffle House Walton and Wendie for the Win. (All horses were named for school deans and other college administrators.) For the second year in a row, Wendie for the Win won the race! (The real Kentucky Derby is set for May 3, in Louisville.)
More information on The Cupboard can be found on its webpage.

The CC Commons in Bush Campus Center is ready for its own "Run for the Roses." Participants made their winning predictions by dropping tickets into their favorite horses' bags. The 10 participating horses were named in honor of school deans and other college administrators.

Giddy up! CC Commons staff are rarin' to start the "Race Against Hunger."

For the second year in a row, "Wendie for the Win" won! The namesake of the "horse," Wendie L. Snyder, director of College Health Services, "rode off" with a dozen roses.

On behalf of College Health Services, Snyder and Ellen K. Ciro, coordinator, donated a cart-full of items to The Cupboard.
