Since Aug. 22, there have been five armed robberies in Williamsport. The robberies have occurred in the 1200 block of Park Avenue, the 500 block of Fifth Avenue, the 1900 block of West Fourth Street, the 400 block of Washington Boulevard and the 1000 block of Park Avenue. The victims all have been walking or standing along sidewalks or streets.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student has died from injuries suffered in a traffic accident Sunday in Liberty Township, Bedford County.Joel D. Morningstar, 22, of Saxton, was enrolled in the civil engineering technology bachelor-degree major.

Students from Penn College's School of Hospitality were featured on WNEP-TV's "Pennsylvania Outdoor Life" series Sunday, May 14. The Outdoor Life crew visited Penn College in April, when they filmed students Lance A. Smith, of Harrisburg, and Christopher R. Grove, of Linden, with Michael J. Ditchfield, instructor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts.

Later this summer, Information Technology Services will begin a major initiative to convert the campus network infrastructure from Novell to Microsoft. This conversion will affect network file storage, network printing and e-mail services. According to Jim Cunningham, chief technology officer, the move will improve the department's ability to respond to the campus' ever-changing IT needs.

Skyrocketing utility costs are not only challenging Pennsylvania College of Technology students and employees at home, but are threatening to swell tuition costs. To encourage the college community to join together to lower utility bills on campus, the Governance Facilities Committee recently launched the "Smart Energy Use" Web site.

Penn College's internal Governance system recaps the major issues addressed by its various committees last month and reports the recent election results. The results, at this point, are incomplete. Governance still is trying to fill several open positions with appointees.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student reported being swindled overnight by a black male in his late 30s at an off-campus apartment. This is the seventh known occurrence by the same or a similar suspect. The incidents are being investigated by the Williamsport Bureau of Police.
