As winter soon gives way to gardening season, Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library offers a timely presentation to help green thumbs differentiate between beneficial and baneful backyard growth. Horticulture instructor Carl J. Bower Jr. will present a free, public forum "Plants: Friend or Foe?" from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the library's second-floor reading loft.

The Madigan Library's far-ranging focus on one of literature's most beloved series continued from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday with "Harry Potter's Herbs: Fact and Fantasy" in the second-floor reading loft.

From noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Penn College hosted Katharine "Kat" Kan, a recognized expert selector and reviewer of graphic novels.

Heidi K. Eppenbach, casual part-time library acquisitions assistant, and Brandie L. Pate, student library worker won The Madigan Library's MayDay Preservation Quiz. The contest, which was open only to library employees, tested knowledge of procedures for proper handling of library materials in both normal and emergency circumstances.

Patricia A. Scott, librarian for collection development and archives at Penn College's Madigan Library, traveled to China from Oct. 10-20 with the Global Archives Management Professional Delegation, part of the People to People Citizen Ambassador Program's initiative on Global Information Management Systems.

Forensic science, a theme that runs through a number of popular television shows, will be "Exhibit A" in a public forum to be held in November on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus in Williamsport. "Fingerprints and Blood Spatter: Using Science to Solve Crimes," the latest in a series of informative presentations, will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov.

A geology exhibit eons in the making will be on display June 10 in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library. "Rockhounds: Digging the Ground Beneath Us" will spotlight more than 150 specimens of rocks, minerals and fossils from local personal hobbyists' collections. Hours will be 10:30 a.m.

On Sunday, April 27, the second Mixed Nuts Casino was enjoyed in The Madigan Library. The event was co-sponsored by the library, Student Activities and the Residence Hall Association. Mixed Nuts Casino is an event held in fall and spring semesters, before the ramp-up to finals, for students to come and enjoy themselves.
