Eight Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball players were honored recently during the college's fall sports banquet.
Seven students on Penn College's Martial Arts Club team were promoted to the next belt level during Saturday's Martial Arts Seminar and Kyu Exam at the Field House. Head coach George Vance said the students Mathew D. Johnson, Cory L. Buckles, Kyle M. Zechman, Morgan A. Olbrich, Madelyn M. Lanoue, Philip T. Le and Michael J. Gardner did an excellent job.
Playing at home on Saturday, Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams closed out the fall semester portion of their seasons with losses. Both teams now are idle until early January. Freshman Scott Fenton (Dickson City) was named the Penn State University Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for theperiod ending Dec. 4. Fenton averaged 18.5 points per game in a 1-1 week including a season-high 22 points against Penn State Mont Alto helping the Wildcats to their first win of the season. He also totaled 14 rebounds, three steals and three assists.
On the basketball court, Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's teams split during the week, each winning one and losing one as the Penn State University Athletic Conference season began. The Wildcats close out the semester Saturday hosting Penn State Beaver with games at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) at Bardo Gymnasium.
In the first-ever Staff/Faculty vs. Students whiffle-ball game Wednesday night in Bardo Gym, the students came out swinging and scored seven runs in the first two innings. The staff/faculty team scored once in the bottom of the third and twice more in the bottom of the sixth inning.
During the Thanksgiving holiday week, Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball and wrestling teams competed in just one event each. This week, Wildcat basketball players open Penn State University Athletic Conference play Wednesday at Penn State Hazleton. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8.
A potential pre-Thanksgiving Break tradition got off to a great start Monday night, as 23 students took part in the first Intramural Root Beer Pong Tournament. When it was all said and done, Samuel J. DiOttavio walked away victorious. "The tournament ran smoothly and everyone enjoyed themselves," said intramural assistant Jeremy R. Bottorf, who also provided photos.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling team offered the lone bright spot for winter sports teams over the past week as it won one of two matches, while the men's and women's basketball teams both went 0-3.
