Pennsylvania College of Technology has once again received an allotment of workforce-development funding to train workers for Pennsylvania companies.

Eleven freshman students enrolled for the Fall 2002 semester at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been designated "Presidential Scholars," an honor awarded for academic excellence and service to school and community. In addition, three adults who are returning to the classroom have been selected as "Penn College Scholars" for their achievements.

"Why did I get myself into this?" Those words, muttered to himself, usually mark the beginning stages of a typical auto restoration project for Leonard Pasquale.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented student achievement awards recently to its May 2002 graduates. The award winners and their addresses and academic majors - are: PRESIDENT'S AWARD, for leadership and service to the College Community: Joseph Mark Tertel, Jr., Frackville, Graphic Design.

Recognizing the fiscal needs of the Williamsport Area School District, Pennsylvania College of Technology has proposed to pay more than $50,000 and provide various academic and consulting services to the school system over a five-year period beginning July 1, pending approval by the College's Board of Directors.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's list of All-American archers continues to grow as the program reaches new heights. Matt Frye, a junior from Muncy; Harry Bauman, a junior from Lock Haven, and Sarah Douglass, a freshman from West Perry, became the 10th, 11th and 12th Penn College athletes to be so honored following recent U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championship competition in San Diego.

Susan Forsyth was laid off from her job at Woolrich Inc. two years ago, but with help from benefits she received under a federal training program, she's well on her way to earning an associate's degree in Business Management from Pennsylvania College of Technology and starting a new career.

A Lycoming County teen-ager will be the first recipient of a scholarship established at Pennsylvania College of Technology earlier this year to honor the memory of the late wife of state Sen. Roger A. Madigan, R-Luthers Mills.

Five Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports athletes have received post-season awards. In baseball, pitcher Stan Bair, a graduate of Dover High School, was named to all-star teams in both the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (which is considered an all-state honor) and Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference. Bair posted a 4-1 record on the season.

The Master Teacher Award, the highest level of recognition accorded to a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member, was presented today to Dale A. Metzker, an associate professor of printing and publishing who is retiring after a 39-year career with Penn College and its two predecessor institutions.
