Pennsylvania College of Technology's list of All-American archers continues to grow as the program reaches new heights.
Matt Frye, a junior from Muncy; Harry Bauman, a junior from Lock Haven, and Sarah Douglass, a freshman from West Perry, became the 10th, 11th and 12th Penn College athletes to be so honored following recent U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championship competition in San Diego. For Bauman, it was the second straight year that he has received All-American status.
"Harry has been a great shooter for the last two years. His form and technique are absolutely perfect. He did great," said second-year Penn College Coach Chad Karstetter in praise of Bauman.
Frye, who finished fifth in men's compound-bow competition, also was named first alternate for the World Team that will compete in Thailand in July, and Douglass, who finished eighth in the Women's Compound, received the Best New Archer award.
Also among the top individual finishers for Penn College were Beth Robinson, a freshman from Williamsport, who was ninth in women's compound.
In addition to individual honors, the Wildcats achieved their highest finish ever in a national event by placing fourth. (The Penn College men's compound team twice won national titles in the past; this is the first season in which the Wildcats competed with a full men's and women's compound team and a men's recurve team.)
In mixed team competition, the Penn College squad of Frye, Douglass, Robinson and Micah Gerrity, a senior from Williamsburg, finished third, as did the men's recurve team of junior Aaron Holdren (Athens), freshman Rob McIntosh (Lockport, N.Y.) and freshman Jason Kornbau (Red Lion). Penn College's men's compound team of Frye, Gerrity, Bauman and Chad Groff, a freshman from West Perry, placed fifth.
"Before, we only had male compound and we did very well because the compound did well. But now that we've added a male recurve team and mixed team with two women, we were able to got more points. In fact, we only missed third place by one point," Karstetter said.
"I'm very pleased with the way the team did all year long. I only lose one person (Garrity), so I hope that we can come back even stronger next year," the coach added.
