Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture, and 17 of his students traveled to Longwood Gardens on Wednesday, a trip that included a visit with alumna Lauren S. Hoderny-Hill. The manager of domestic and international studies at the botanical showcase in Kennett Square, she is a 2005 graduate in floral design/interior plantscape.

A Wednesday afternoon ribbon-cutting made it official: Clubhouse Concessions LLC, the first student-run enterprise at Pennsylvania College of Technology, is open for business! Begun by Jason Wiedl, a construction management student from West Pittston, the food truck will be set up from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursdays to Saturdays at West Third and Susquehanna streets. Its start-up menu offers sliders, hot dogs, music and cornhole.

Career Services held its final major-specific Recruitment Day of the semester on Wednesday, as more than a dozen companies filled the Breuder Advanced Technology & Health Services Center atrium to talk with students and alumni about career opportunities in the plastics and polymer field. Penn College's Recruitment Days are narrowly tailored to particular programs, with smaller numbers of vendors – but with no less enthusiasm about discussing internships and full-and part-time jobs.

A PPG Industries Inc. training instructor, renowned for his custom paint artistry, shared decades' worth of expertise this week with Penn College students, faculty and career and technical education instructors. Paul Stoll – who last visited campus during the Air Affair East showcase in May 2007 – began Wednesday with a basic airbrush class.

Penn College observed National Hispanic Heritage Month during a Tuesday event in the Bush Campus Center for students, employees and community members. The 14th Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Dinner & Auction raised a total of $141,000 for student scholarships at the college. Held at Penn College’s Madigan Library, the event was sponsored by Lycoming Engines and featured a live auction of 25 donated items and services by Ron Roan of Roan Inc. Auctioneers & Appraisers, who donated his professional services, as well as a silent auction of 26 items and services.

Chef Roberto Caporuscio recently brought the 300-year-old art of Neapolitan pizza making to the kitchens of Penn College’s hospitality program, where he offered a demonstration and hands-on lesson to students in the Global Cuisine & Connections course, taught by Chef Mary G. Trometter. Caporuscio’s visit was facilitated by Giacomo Berselli, founder of the Marco Polo Program Abroad in Italy.

A 2012 Penn College baking & pastry arts graduate recently offered instruction to Jackie Lewandoski, co-host of “Home & Backyard” on WNEP. Sabrina (Strassner) Branning, owner of Baked by Brina in Milton, opened her bakery’s kitchen to show viewers how to make and decorate a pumpkin spice cake with cinnamon cream cheese icing, providing handy pro tips throughout the process.
