As part of Penn College's "Give Thanks, Paw It Forward" campaign, an annual expression of deep and widespread appreciation, College Relations is amplifying students’ gratitude for their life-changing collegiate experiences through a pre-Thanksgiving campaign of thankfulness. Joining the effort, Penn College News will share a week’s worth of “Meet the Makers” profiles, starting with Matthew J. Woolcock, of Oil City, a cross-country athlete and welding & fabrication engineering technology junior.

Competing Saturday in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, seven Pennsylvania College of Technology cross-country runners turned in career personal-best times and 11 posted season personal bests. Also, when the United East Conference postseason soccer awards were handed out, Wildcat players made an unprecedented haul, while the wrestling and basketball teams tasted victory.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s cross-country team is seeking continued improvement on the NCAA regional level when it competes on Saturday in the D-III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship; while in competition over the past week, the historical women’s soccer season came to an end, and basketball season began.

Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team will be looking to improve on last season’s six-win, 20-loss season when it begins its season this weekend. Competing in the Chatham University Cougar Tip-Off Classic, the Wildcats open their fifth season under coach Britni Mohney at 7 p.m. Friday before facing Susquehanna University at noon on Saturday.

With a group of playoff-experienced seniors, depth from a mix of junior and sophomores, multiple ball handlers, and good height with two 6-foot, 10-inch and three 6-foot, 5-inch players, Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball coach Geoff Hensley believes he has the pieces in place for something special. The Wildcats open their season at home at 5 p.m. on Friday in a nonconference game against Elmira (N.Y.) College.

With one United East Conference championship in the bag (men’s cross-country) and another still possible (women’s soccer), the Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports season is nearing its end in brilliant fashion. An inspiring team effort took place recently with readings of “Meet Mason” by the Penn College men’s basketball team. In honor of Blindness Awareness Month in October, the team, their coach and the book’s author engaged children in various local settings, including the Dunham Children’s Learning Center at Penn College, Otto Bookstore in downtown Williamsport and Cochran Primary School. The “center” of this team dynamic is Mason Chapman, whose story is shared in “Meet Mason."

While the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s cross-country team seeks a United East Conference championship repeat performance, the women’s team will look for continued improvement when the teams compete on Saturday. Hosted by St. Mary’s (Md.) College at Oak Ridge Park in Hughesville, Maryland, the women’s 6K race with 16 teams will begin at 11 a.m. and the men’s 8K race with 15 teams will follow at noon.

Coming off a record-breaking unbeaten regular season, Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s soccer coach Ian Scheller now has his team’s sights set on the biggest prize: a United East Conference Championship. Seeded second in the 12-team single-elimination tournament after going 7-0-1 in the UE and 14-0-4 overall, Penn College will host Wilson College in a quarterfinal at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

With a roster that returns three top-eight regional finishers from last season’s squad and a NCAA Division III national qualifier from two seasons ago, Pennsylvania College of Technology first-year wrestling head coach Dalton Rohrbaugh has plenty of reason for optimism. “Overall, I am extremely excited for this team to compete. I think we will turn heads and show we can compete with the best of the best,” Rohrbaugh said.
