After splitting four regular-season softball games with Penn State Harrisburg and Penn State Berks, going 3-1 against Lancaster Bible College and 4-0 against Penn State Abington, it’s easy to understand why Pennsylvania College of Technology coach Angela Stackhouse says of the United East Volt Division playoffs, “it is anybody’s game.” The second-seeded Wildcats open the double-elimination tournament at noon on Friday against third-seeded Penn State Berks.
After the golf team won its second straight championship over the weekend, United East Conference playoff action is scheduled to continue this week with two more Pennsylvania College of Technology teams seeking titles — men’s lacrosse and women’s softball.
Even though his second-seeded team is coming off Saturday’s 23-9 win over Keystone College, Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s lacrosse coach Jordan Williams said he is taking nothing for granted entering Tuesday’s 7 p.m. home contest against No. 3 seed Keystone in a United East Conference semifinal. Headed to the playoffs for the fourth straight season, the Wildcats enter the game with records of 4-1 in the UE and 9-8 overall, while Keystone is 3-2, 6-9.
When the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s golf team won the United East Championship last spring, coach Rob Lytle called it a “great, great tune-up because I believe we’ll be doing this again, year after year.”
Although she has only been with the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s softball program for less than four full seasons, coach Angela Stackhouse has become the quickest to reach 100 wins in any sport dating back to the mid-1960s. On Monday, Stackhouse reached the century mark in her 135th game.
Although three Pennsylvania College of Technology sports teams’ winning streaks ended over the past week, the women’s tennis team started a new streak and also made program history. Penn College scored a 9-0 nonconference win over Clarks Summit University on Saturday. The victory was its first of the spring season after two wins in the fall.
17-0. That’s the combined win streak of three Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports teams.
Hosting Penn State Harrisburg in its United East opener on Wednesday, Penn College Softball won the opener 5-4 in dramatic fashion and took the second 3-1. Hosting Cairn University in a twin bill on Tuesday, Penn College Baseball split, losing the first game 6-4 and winning the second 13-5.
After a fall season that included a first-place finish in the United East Fall Preview, Pennsylvania College of Technology golf coach Rob Lytle looks to use five spring outings to sharpen his team as it seeks to defend its regular-season-ending United East Championship and earn a second-straight trip to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Wildcats open their season on Friday and Saturday in the Pennsylvania Classic, hosted by Penn State Altoona on the Penn State White and Blue courses.
The regular spring seasons have wrapped up for four of the college’s esports teams and three of them — Valorant, Overwatch 2 and Rocket League — will step into playoff action the week of April 1. The Valorant team is seeded No. 1, the Overwatch 2 team is seeded No. 2 and the Rocket League team is seeded No. 3.
