Baseball team raising funds for former player's brother

Tuesday, April 1, 2025

The Penn College baseball team has stepped up to the plate to assist a former player’s brother who is battling Hodgkin lymphoma. Team members are selling $10 raffle tickets with proceeds targeting medical expenses incurred by Jed Webb. Jed, 19, is the younger brother of Chance Webb, who played for the Wildcats from 2021-23 before earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

“A couple of our players who were teammates with Chance came to me and said that they would like to put something together to help Jed and his family,” explained head coach Chris Howard. “We often talk about the brotherhood of being a member of the Penn College baseball program. There is a bond, a brotherhood that will connect us forever. And because of that, we want to do whatever we can to help someone who is a part of this brotherhood, and that extends to family members of former players.”

Winners of the raffle will receive cash prizes, ranging from $250 to $1,000, according to Howard. Tickets are available from any Wildcat baseball player or by emailing Howard at choward@pct.edu.

The team also plans to honor Jed at its regular season home finale, a doubleheader scheduled for noon on April 19 at Bowman Field against Penn State Brandywine.

“This game will be our Senior Day, but our seniors don’t mind one bit sharing the stage with Jed. I’m proud of every one of the seniors!” Howard said. “This is why I love coaching so much.”
