Beginning in May, Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a series of cooking demonstrations to the public. The Creative Cuisine Series features six sessions presented by faculty and professional staff in the college's School of Hospitality. Sessions begin with a demonstration of each menu item, after which the items will be served to participants, who will take home the recipes.

Mushrooms, whether harvested in the wild or plucked from the produce aisle, will be the subject of the Spring Madigan Library Forum at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Frank M. Suchwala, instructor of hospitality management/culinary arts in the college's School of Hospitality, will present "Mushrooms: Fun to Forage, Fun to Eat" in the library's second-floor reading loft from 4 to 5 p.m.

Kris Patterson, of the Penn State Bakery, joined students in the Baking and Pastry Applications course April 8-9 to share his expertise as the class baked several varieties of artisan bread.

Four first-grade classes from Lyter Elementary School in Montoursville visited labs at Penn College on March 23. The children enjoyed activities in graphic communications laboratories and in the School of Hospitality. They screen-printed T-shirts, twisted pretzels, learned to set tables and practice good table manners, and toured facilities.

Pennsylvania College of Technology students served as assistants to Pennsylvania chefs competing in the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association's "Pennsylvania Palate Competition." The competition closed the association's fourth annual Food and Beverage Conference, themed "Shift Your Focus," which was held Feb. 23 at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College.

Boundless creativity provided the midnight oil for Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality students, who put in late, late hours to prepare their entries for the fifth annual CalJava International Wedding Cake Competition.

An assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently presented a workshop at the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association's annual Food and Beverage Conference. Penn College's Chef Paul Mach presented a session titled "Pennsylvania Beer Versus Wine and Sustainable Tapas" with Robert Oeler, sommelier at the Nittany Lion Inn.

A number of Pennsylvania College of Technology offices again are encouraging students to make wise, safe decisions during Spring Break. In a party atmosphere from 5-6:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania College of Technology hosted its spring Visiting Chef Series from Feb. 17-19, welcoming Chef DeJuan Roy, executive chef of 95 Cordova at the historic Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Fla. While at the college, Roy worked alongside School of Hospitality students, sharing his expertise as they prepared a benefit dinner that concluded the stay.

Layne E. Eggers has been named assistant dean of hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
