The second annual "CalJava Wedding Cake Contest," conceived by prominent cake decorator Daniel Budiman for Pennsylvania College of Technology students, is scheduled for April 30 on the college's main campus in Williamsport. Budiman is CEO of CalJava International the contest's sponsor and editor of Here Comes the Cake magazine.
Accomplished cake decorator Bartolo "Buddy" Valestro Jr., of Carlo's City Hall Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., offered a demonstration to students, alumni and the public Monday evening. Valestro remained on campus to work with cake-decorating classes Tuesday.
On-campus internships in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, operated by the School of Hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology, give culinary arts students the chance to exercise their inventiveness as they work with the kitchen's professional staff. "The emphasis in this lab is on creativity," said Fred W. Becker, dean of hospitality.

Lanczak's baking and pastry arts application class prepared goodies for Friday night's "Sweet Temptations," a fundraising event at the Best Western Inn sponsored by the Lycoming County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. For a $10 donation, visitors could sample sweet treats made by local businesses.
