The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team will have a new look this season – literally. Of the 23 players on coach Mike Stanzione's roster, 19 are freshmen, and that means all positions are wide open going into Tuesday's opener against Alfred (N.Y.) State. The doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. at Williamsport's Bowman Field.

Fourteen Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports athletes have earned postseason honors, capping the most successful year ever in Wildcat athletic history. Earning All-American status were archers Ryan Romberger (Pillow), who won the national collegiate outdoor male compound title; Ryan Benny (Burnham) and Michelle Wright (Kendall, N.Y.).

One individual national champion, two second-place team finishes and three All-Americans. It was another season to remember for the Penn College archery squad. Ryan Romberger, a junior from Pillow and graduate of Upper Dauphin High School, won the male compound title in the U.S. Collegiate Outdoor Championships, which concluded Sunday at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

Pennsylvania College of Technology archers have had their share of success since the season began in January. Now comes the big one the U.S. Collegiate Outdoor Championships. Heading into the national meet, which will be staged Thursday through Sunday at James Madison University, Penn College is ranked fifth as a team, just two points out of third.

Mike Murzynski, a Construction Management student from Erie; and Elizabeth Brown, a Culinary Arts Technology student from Sayre, were the men's and women's overall winners in Tuesday's first "Penn College Field Day." In the Women's Division, Brown won the push-ups (36), sit-ups (38) and shuttle run (11.3 seconds).

Making bold predictions for his Penn College tennis team is nothing new for coach Charlie Baum. And he's at it again. A year ago, Baum forecast that two of his freshmen players (Theresa Burrill of Jersey Shore and Kristie Boyd of Parkland) would win conference and state women's singles and doubles championships. They did.

Improved pitching, backed by a solid defense, good speed and power hitting, could translate into something very special for the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's softball team this season. The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to open Wednesday with a doubleheaderat Luzerne County Community College.

With new players joining as recently as Wednesday, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's volleyball team has had little time to jell before its season opener Sunday. "They're a little rough. But without a doubt there's some talent there and hopefully I can whip them into shape and we can have a pretty good season," said Wes Strayer, who enters his first season as coach.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's male and female compound archery teams closed out the indoor portion of their season in fine fashion with first-place finishes in the Eastern Regionals and second-place finishes at nationals.
