Pennsylvania College of Technology's male and female compound archery teams closed out the indoor portion of their season in fine fashion with first-place finishes in the Eastern Regionals and second-place finishes at nationals.
In competition a week ago at James Madison University, where both regional and nationals were held, the Wildcat men edged James Madison by two points for the regional title and finished just 12 points behind Texas A&M in the nationals.
Leading the way for the Penn College men were Ryan Romberger (Pillow) who placed third in the nation in male compound and Ryan Benny (Burnham) who was fifth.
For the Penn College women, Michelle Wright (Kendell, N.Y.) was seventh, Leslie Weaver (New Columbia) eighth and Beth Robinson (Williamsport) ninth in the nation.
In women's regionals, James Madison was second and Penn State third. Nationally for the women, Texas A&M was on top with James Madison third.
"The girls are doing very well. In regionals, Michelle, Leslie and Beth shot scores that were within a couple of points of one another. To have three girls to be able to do that at a huge meet like at JMU, that's extraordinary," said Wildcat coach Chad Karstetter.
"(Overall) it was a great weekend. I couldn't have been more happy with the way they shot. They exceeded my expectations," the coach continued.
Now, the Wildcats turn their attention to the outdoor season, where distances to targets will increase, as will the number of arrows shot.
"I'm really looking forward to going outside now. The morale is high because we've done so well indoors and usually we do even better outdoors," Karstetter said.
The Wildcats' next competition is April 3 at the James Madison Invitational, followed by the Atlantic City Classic in late April, the Battle of Bull Run in early May and the season-ending U.S. Collegiate Outdoor Championships in mid-May.
