Two 'pop-up' employer info tables set this week
For Penn College students seeking job or internship opportunities, Career Services has scheduled two Pop-Up Employer Information Tables on campus this week: On Monday, Oct. 28, Letterkenny Army Depot is hosting a table in the Hager Lifelong Education Center lobby (outside of KDR) from 10 am to 2 pm. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Friends in Action is hosting a table in the Carl Building Technologies Center hallway from 10 am to 2 pm.

Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. is setting up an employer information table on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Pennsylvania College of Technology. HRG is recruiting for the following positions: civil staff engineer, civil engineering intern, land development engineer, water and wastewater engineer, transportation/traffic engineer; bridge design engineer and highway engineer. Interested students should bring their resumes.

Guest lecturer discusses promise of 'smart' concrete
European research into self-monitoring and self-healing concrete was shared Wednesday evening with Penn College students in civil engineering and a variety of construction-related majors. The hourlong seminar was delivered by Andrzej Cwirzen, head of the Building Materials Research Group at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden.

Students in the Steel Design course traveled to High Steel Structures LLC, one of the nation’s leading fabricators of structural steel, to learn about bridge girder fabrication. “The concepts students learn in my class are seen up close and very personal at High Steel Structures,” said Potts, assistant professor of civil engineering technology.

This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College (see www.pct.edu/catalog/TransferringCredits). Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.
Alternative Credit refers to academic credits earned through means other than traditional college course completion, including: credit by exam, articulation, proof of competency gained in high school, work/life experience, and advanced placement.

Prospective students should be aware that licensure requirements for work in this profession vary by state. The Civil Engineering Technology program meets the educational requirements for licensure within the state of Pennsylvania. We have not determined if graduates of our program will be eligible for licensure in other states; therefore, students intending to seek employment in states other than PENNSYLVANIA are asked to contact the state licensing board of the state they wish to seek licensing to confirm that our program meets the requirements of the state where you intend to work. More information can be found on the the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) website.
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Certification Exams:
- Civil Technology A.A.S. graduates qualify to take the certification exams for certified technician in the general knowledge category upon graduation, and with approved additional work experience can take exams to become certified in a variety of work areas.
- Civil Engineering Technology B.S. graduates can become NICET certified as engineering technologists; however, most graduates take the exams to become licensed professional engineers.
