Statistics for STEM Fields with Computer Applications
MTH161
Introduction of frequently applied statistical methods. Topics include graphical summaries, descriptive statistics, linear regression and correlation, elementary probability, the normal distribution, sampling distributions and the Central Limit Theorem, confidence intervals and tests of hypotheses for one and two samples, and ANOVA. Computer applications include the use of plots, application of standard methods to real data, in-depth exploration of data, simulation as a learning tool, and screening data for errors. Students satisfying a quantitative thinking core foundation requirement with MTH 161 cannot also use MTH 157 or MTH 159 to satisfy an additional quantitative thinking core foundation requirement.
