State Rep. Peter G. Schweyer (D-Allentown), majority chair of the House Education Committee, visited Pennsylvania College of Technology on Tuesday, gaining insights into the college’s unique educational model, impressive academic facilities and exciting new initiatives. He was accompanied on his tour by his chief of staff, Nancy Wilt.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology employee “getting the experience of a lifetime” was the subject of a WNEP-TV report Tuesday evening. Zachary Gump, senior program manager of commercial buildings for the college’s Clean Energy Center, is one of 16 individuals from around the globe chosen to umpire at the Little League Baseball World Series, taking place in South Williamsport through Sunday.

The Penn College community rolled out the Wildcat welcome carpet over the past few days, greeting first-year and returning students for the 2024-25 academic year. From Wednesday's move-in for the newest members of the Wildcat family through Monday morning's free coffee and advocacy outreach designed to ease those first-day worries, the campus teemed with an array of offerings to orient and entertain students.

The entire cohort of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s 2024 surgical technology graduates passed the national Certified Surgical Technologist Examination on their first attempt. The group graduated on Aug. 3.

The full episode for “Clash of Trades: Welding League Edition Season 2” has been released, featuring the host facility – Pennsylvania College of Technology’s 55,000-square-foot welding lab. Project MFG’s National Welding League Championship was filmed at Penn College in June, bringing to campus 18 competitors from 14 U.S. high schools and trade schools (285 competitors from 101 schools competed in the national qualifying events).

On the Division III map after making big strides over the past year, including three team championships, Pennsylvania College of Technology is set to enter its 11th season as a member of the United East Conference and eighth season as a full-fledged member of the NCAA. As students returned to the campus over the last few days, student-athletes are excited to get back to work on their field of dreams.

The second annual Retirees Luncheon was held recently in the Thompson Professional Development Center. Pennsylvania College of Technology retirees and their guests enjoyed hearing from three student speakers who shared their exciting engagements with the Kentucky Derby, Wildcat Athletics and Global Experiences.

Local mascot celebrities, including Penn College’s Wildcat, gathered recently to celebrate Boomer’s birthday at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. Boomer is the mascot for Crosscutters Baseball, a member of the MLB Draft League.

It was a wild Wildcat Wednesday as first-year students moved into their residence halls with an eager assist from many happy helpers. After all the unpacking, the coming days are packed with fun and informative activities to ring in the new academic year.
