Alumnus grateful for his foundations

Tuesday, November 19, 2024

Alumni volunteer David W. Stanley returns to the classroom to share his passion for his profession and advice with the next generation of Penn College Tomorrow Makers. The 1982 radiologic technology graduate also empowers radiography students with the William and Evelyn Stanley Scholarship, honoring his parents. As part of College Relations' "Give Thanks, Paw It Forward" week (Nov. 18-22), Penn College News is sharing a week's worth of "Makers" profiles, showcasing the short stories of college students, alumni and supporters.

Penn College students aren’t the only ones expressing their appreciation during “Give Thanks, Paw It Forward” week. Alumni are also joining the effort. (This is the third installment in a weeklong series honoring College Relations’ annual, pre-Thanksgiving initiative.)

David W. Stanley, a 1982 radiologic technology graduate of Penn College’s predecessor institution, Williamsport Area Community College, gives thanks for his foundations (family and collegiate) through a radiography scholarship in memory of his “great parents,” William and Evelyn Stanley.

“I want to honor my parents, and this scholarship is a perfect way to recognize them for the respect and appreciation that I have for them,” David said. “I remember when I was in college, any scholarship money was greatly appreciated! I hope this scholarship will assist students while they are working on their degree and assist them in reaching their full potential.”

In addition to being a donor and Pillar Society member, the college alumnus serves on the Alumni Board and is an alumni volunteer, returning to the classroom to share his passion for his profession and advice with the next generation of Tomorrow Makers.

David’s 34-year career with GE Healthcare took him to 46 states and over 35 counties. “There were so many impactful moments, but what comes to mind first is supporting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for over 21 years. The work that we collaborated on changed how MRI is done today,” he shared. “To be able to image the human body is truly amazing, especially when you are assisting in someone’s healthcare.”

Penn College alumni are using their talents to enhance lives. Their dedication and stewardship are powerful components to the overall success of the institution, its students and society. #pctgrateful
