Q&A with David

HOW DOES THE WORLD OF RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGY INSPIRE YOU?

To be able to image the human body is truly amazing especially when you are assisting in someone’s healthcare. When I was working in MRI research and development and knowing these new applications would change and save people’s lives inspired me to work harder in developing even more new and innovative applications using MRI.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER (PRIOR TO RETIREMENT).

After graduating from Penn College (WACC), I attended Oral Roberts University where I had the opportunity to do a research paper on MRI (1987). My first job after graduation was MRI Technologist at Duke University and after 18 months, I was hired by GE Healthcare where I worked for 34 years. My list of responsibilities during this time included: MRI Applications Specialist, Advanced Applications Specialist (Cardiac MRI), Clinical and Development Specialist (MRI), Research Collaboration Leader (Mayo Clinic Rochester MN), and Advanced Product Specialist. During my career at GE, I visited 46 states and traveled to over 35 countries for work.

PLEASE SHARE AN IMPACTFUL MOMENT IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER.

There were so many impactful moments but what comes to mind first is supporting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN for over 21 years. The work that we collaborated on changed how MRI is done today. But most of all, working with the staff at the Mayo Clinic was truly a rewarding experience.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO ESTABLISH THE WILLIAM & EVELYN STANLEY SCHOLARSHIP?

I had great parents, William and Evelyn Stanley! Oh, they had their challenges, but they were always there for me, giving encouragement, imparting their wisdom and providing guidance. I want to honor my parents and this scholarship is a perfect way to recognize them for the respect and appreciation that I have for them.

HOW DO YOU HOPE THIS SCHOLARSHIP ENCOURAGES RADIOGRAPHY STUDENTS?

I remember when I was in college, any scholarship money was greatly appreciated! I hope this scholarship will assist students while they are working on their degree and assist them in reaching their full potential.

YOUR THOUGHTFUL ESTATE PLANNING ENSURES SUPPORT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE OPENING DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR TOMORROW’S WORKFORCE?

My father was a minister and his work affected many lives spiritually. My work in MRI affected many lives as well but physically. Our work made a difference in people’s lives. This scholarship will continue our legacy in making a difference in people’s lives.
