Sunday, November 17, 2024

Matthew J. Woolcock (at right), of Oil City, a cross-country athlete and welding & fabrication engineering technology junior gets a running start on Penn College's annual "Give Thanks, Paw It Forward" campaign.

As part of Penn College's "Give Thanks, Paw It Forward" campaign, an annual expression of deep and widespread appreciation, College Relations is amplifying students’ gratitude for their life-changing collegiate experiences through a pre-Thanksgiving campaign of thankfulness.

During the week of Nov. 18-22, thank-you notes will be written, social media posts will be shared, and posters and digital displays will tout the celebration of appreciation all across Penn College’s campuses.

Joining the effort, Penn College News will share a week’s worth of “Meet the Makers” profiles, starting with Matthew J. Woolcock, of Oil City, a cross-country athlete and welding & fabrication engineering technology junior.

Running since age 8, Woolcock chose Penn College because it gave him “the opportunity to continue doing what I love at a competitive level” combined with the ability to pursue a career path with endless global opportunities. Two peak experiences in those arenas: Helping the Wildcat cross-country team win a conference championship and gaining rare exposure to electron beam welding.

Woolcock’s coach and teammates are included on this student’s gratitude list. “Coach Leeser is everything an athlete could ask for. He pushes us in practice, helps us prepare for math exams and has us over for supper,” he shared. “Our teammates are more than people we run with. They are like brothers and sisters. We go to church together, study together, eat together and many more things outside of our training time. I can confidently say that we would do anything for each other.”

Thanking all who invest in the Penn College experience, including members of the Wildcat Club, Woolcock added, “Thank you for all that you do to make our lives easier as student-athletes! It isn't said enough, but we are very thankful for all that you do to support us as we pursue our careers and passions.”
