Students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's diesel technology and heavy equipment technology majors will benefit from recent donations made by Volvo Construction Equipment North America Inc. The Asheville, N.C.-based company recently donated a new BL70 backhoe loader that will be used to help train students in Penn College's heavy equipment technology associate-degree major.
Donald R. Nibert's Wildlife Management class undertook its annual controlled burn on state game lands near Penn College's Earth Science Center on Wednesday, improving habitat for wildlife by killing invasive woody plants in designated grassland areas. On Wednesday, Barry Stump visited Lumley Aviation Center with his home-built Davis DA-2A aircraft. Stump spent 13 years building the all-metal monoplane, which he completed in 2000. The DA-2A has four seats, a top speed of 165 mph and cruises at 120 mph. An unusual feature of this aircraft is the fuselage design. At cruise speeds, wings only create 70 percent of the lift.
