Around 200 second-graders from the Shamokin Area School District visited Penn College on Thursday following a show at the Community Arts Center. The group toured the college library and ate lunch in the Field House to experience a college campus.
This week, the collision repair department hosted in-house training by Jim Wrigley, Chief Automotive Group's senior trainer for the Middle Atlantic/Northeast Region. Wrigley spent two days teaching computerized-measuring theory in the classroom, as well as in the collision lab's velocity measuring system and S21M frame bench.
Pennsylvania College of Technology will host its spring Visiting Chef Series Feb. 23-25, welcoming Walter Staib, accomplished chef and proprietor of City Tavern in Philadelphia. While at the college, Staib will work alongside students, sharing his expertise as they prepare a benefit dinner on Saturday, Feb. 25, that will conclude the stay.
The American Red Cross was pleased with the turnout for Wednesday's Bloodmobile at the Bush Campus Center, where a total of 174 individuals registered to give blood and 134 pints were collected. There were 40 first-time donors and, although the goal was not met, every pint collected goes to saving another life.
More and more Penn College employees are adding their support to the Madigan Library Campaign. One of them is Diana L. Kuhns, assistant professor of mathematics. "As a young person, I spent countless hours in libraries, feeding my passion for reading," Kuhns said. "As a student, I was often tucked away in the corner of a library searching for sources and writing countless papers.
Vinay Bahl, associate professor of sociology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has authored a book in which she suggests an alternative perspective on "history from below," as promoted by the Indian school of Subaltern Studies. The book, titled "What Went Wrong With 'History From Below': Reinstating Human Agency As Human Creativity," was published in 2005 by K. P.

Canton-area manufacturer R&T Technologies recently donated funds to a Pennsylvania College of Technology student organization for the group's entry into a Mini Baja competition for off-road vehicles. The Society of Automotive Engineers hosts three regional Mini Baja competitions in the United States.
All Penn College employees are invited to attend the next informational session about one of the most exciting additions to the Penn College campus: the new Roger and Peggy Madigan Library. The 45-minute session will be held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Library Instructional Room (LRC, Room151). Light refreshments will be served.
