Penn College students, faculty and staff donatedmore than110 pairs of shoes to benefit Valley Prevention Services' recent demonstration on the State Capitol steps in Harrisburg to raise awareness about tobacco-related illnesses. Over 20,000 pairs of shoes were collected from around the state; each represents one of 20,000 Pennsylvanians who die from tobacco-related illness each year.
"We're ready to go."Those were the words of Rees Daneker, Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball coach, as his team prepared this week to play for the Penn State University Athletic Conference championship.Penn College, 30-11 overall, will face Penn State Delaware County (23-7) in a best-of-three game series. Games at Shaner Field, near Boalsburg, are scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Penn College Wildcat Power Team continues to claim victories in a series of competitions held at Bucknell University, Lock Haven University and New Castle over the past two seasons. The team consists of Penn College students who participate in powerlifting and martial arts under the guidance of Dr. William B. Urosevich, associate professor of anatomy and physiology.
PGA Tour member J.J. Henry will be the visiting pro at the 20th Annual Golf Classic, to be hosted by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation on May 8 at the Williamsport Country Club. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship.
The involvement of Pennsylvania College of Technology's vibrant student organizations both on campus and off was spotlighted at Wednesday night's Student Activities Awards Banquet in the Bush Campus Center. The Penn College Outdoor Adventure Club braved cold temperatures and rain Tuesday night camping on the ATHS lawn. Club members had the idea to camp on campus to promote the club and stir up interest. While only eight members spent the night, several showed up for the free food, music, movies, Frisbee and slack-lining. Anyone who happened to come by was encouraged to eat and have fun.
