Students in Donald R. Nibert's Wildlife Management class conducted their annual controlled burn on State Game Lands 252 near the Schneebeli Earth Science Center on Tuesday. "This was the best burn that we ever conducted," said the assistant professor of forestry. "The students gain valuable experience in the control of wildfires through this wildlife-management practice.

Twenty-seven outstanding Penn College women students, faculty and staff were honored at Monday night's inaugural "Celebration of Women" in Penn's Inn. Special guest Rachel Muir, who, in 1999, founded the nonprofit organization Girlstart, gave a keynote address on the mixture of naivete and gumption that prompted her to help young girls succeed in the fields of math, science and technology.

Frederick G. "Rick" Terry, director of the Factory Built Housing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology, made a presentation recently to a group of commercial modular builders, manufacturers and other industry attendees at the 23rd Annual Modular Building Institute Convention and Trade Show.

On March 25, Penn College held induction ceremonies for the Alpha Chi and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies and honored Veronica M. Muzic, vice president for academic affairs/provost, for her service to Alpha Chi. More than 70 students accepted invitations to join Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students enrolled in associate-degree programs.

More and more Penn College employees are adding their support to the Madigan Library Campaign. One of them is Jennifer McLean, director of instructional technology and distance learning, who, with her husband, made a gift to the Madigan Library Campaign in their children's names.

An early childhood educator at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Children's Learning Center was chosen to receive the Terri Lynn Lokoff Child Care Foundation National Child Care Teacher Award. Kathryn P. (Kay) Jerald, a group leader at the Children's Learning Center, heads its toddler class for children about 18 months to 3 years old.

Tammy S. Clossen, assistant professor of dental hygiene at Pennsylvania College of Technology, will be honored for the second consecutive year in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." Clossen's biography will appear in the 10th edition of the book, to be published later this year. Clossen also appeared in the book's ninth edition, published in 2005.

"Green for the Mainstream," an overview of environmentally responsible building projects, will be presented March 28 at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport. The presentation, by Margo Thompson of the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, is free and open to the public. It will be offered at 3:30 p.m.

First-graders from Lyter Elementary School in Montoursville visited Penn College's graphic communications facilities this week, where, with the help of members of the Gamma Epsilon Tau graphic arts fraternity, they learned about how things are printed.
