Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports teams had a very busy week with six of its teams competing in 25 events. Golf In their final tune-up before the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, the Wildcats placed third among four teams in the Keuka Spring Invitational at Lakeside Country Club on Wednesday.
Despite another up-and-down week weatherwise, most Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams saw action and for the golfers the season is about to conclude. Golf Competing Monday in the Dutchmen Spring Invitational at Lebanon Country Club, the Wildcats placed seventh in a 14-team field. Individually for Penn College, Corey Teeple, of Lake Ariel, fired a 79 on the 6,272-yard.
For the first time this spring, all five Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams saw action during the same week. Baseball Returning to action March 29 after a 16-day layoff, the Wildcats and Marywood University were locked in a tight game through six and a half innings as Penn College led, 2-0. Then things got wild.
Other than the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s tennis team starting its season with a win, Mother Nature again was the big winner last week as a host of events either were postponed or canceled. And this week, barring more weather-related disruptions, the women’s tennis team will get its season underway.
Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball and softball teams went a combined 3-15 as they got their seasons underway last week in nonconference action at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Three of the softball team’s losses were by no more than two runs, as were two of the baseball team’s. Baseball On March 8, Penn College fell to Johnson and Wales University, 3-2, and Albertus Magnus, 8-1.
The scheduled baseball opener for Pennsylvania College of Technology at Mary Washington was canceled Friday after a late-week snowstorm hit Fredericksburg, Virginia, but everything is still on track for the college’s baseball and softball teams as they compete this week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where temperatures will be warmer but there is a chance of showers.
Someone once sang, “Nothing would be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning,” and Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball coach Chris Howard and softball coach Roger Harris couldn’t agree more.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling teams closed out their seasons this past week. In basketball on Saturday at Bryn Athyn, the women won, 72-64, to complete a 13-12 overall season, 12-8 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference; and the men lost, 74-71, to end 3-22 overall and 2-16 in the NEAC.
Battling for a North Eastern Athletic Conference playoff berth, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team went 1-1 in conference play last week and in the process saw one of its players reach the 1,000-point career scoring mark.
In its final tune-up before the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Invitational on Feb. 15, the Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling team dropped its final dual match on Saturday, 32-18, at Centenary College.
