A Pennsylvania College of Technology welding student is one of 20 nationwide recipients of a manufacturing scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. Brandon M.

Jonathan F. DeRoner, a computer aided product design student from Thurmont, Md., has been chosen as the Student of the Month at Pennsylvania College of Technology. DeRoner, scheduled to graduate in May 2015, is a Resident Assistant in The Village Apartments and is heavily involved in the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity and its volunteer and community work.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology plastics and polymer engineering technology major has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. Ryan N. Troiano, of Lake Ariel, received the scholarship from DME Co., a world leader in plastic molding technologies.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology senior has been awarded one of two annual scholarships from the Society of Plastics Engineers Pittsburgh Section. Tamara R. Rader, of Knox, enrolled in the college’s plastics and polymer engineering technology bachelor-degree major, received the Pittsburgh Section Annual Scholarship.

A western Pennsylvania mining company has established a $1 million scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology to honor an alumnus employee who died July 31 while working in his beloved field of equipment repair. Amerikohl Mining Inc. and its owner and president, John Stilley, endowed the fund in memory of Steelyn G.

Fifty years ago, Williamsport Technical Institute installed its first computer on the campus that is now Pennsylvania College of Technology, pioneering the early development of computer science education. The first computer had its own small room, which could accommodate about 10 students at a time gaining hands-on experience in the college’s first “data-processing” courses.
