Jonathan F. DeRoner Named ‘Student of the Month’

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Jonathan F. DeRoner, a computer aided product design student from Thurmont, Md., has been chosen as the Student of the Month at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

DeRoner, scheduled to graduate in May 2015, is a Resident Assistant in The Village Apartments and is heavily involved in the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity and its volunteer and community work.

"Jonathan is one of the most dedicated and loyal people I have ever supervised," his Residence Life nominator said. "He works tirelessly and without complaint and he gives whatever project or task he is working on his full attention. He is always the first person to get work done that is assigned to him and he follows up by asking what else he can do to help."

Jonathan F. DeRonerNoting the "dignity, humor and energy" that DeRoner brings to any assignment, the nominator praised his impressive commitment to the campus and its students.

"He speaks often of his desire to help his fellow students and get them involved on campus, and his actions – and the decisions he makes – as a student leader match his words," he said. "Jonathan is always asking other students to join him when he goes to events on campus and his devotion and loyalty to his fraternity is almost awe-inspiring. Perhaps what amazes me most is how much he has grown both personally and professionally throughout his involvement on campus and how he carries the desire and responsibility to 'pay it forward' by involving as many people as he can in every aspect of his life as a Penn College student.

"I can think of no one more deserving!"

Student Government Association recognition is bestowed numerous times each academic year based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement. Nominations from faculty/staff and other students are strongly encouraged.
