Students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality recently catered the 18th Annual Gourmet Harvest Festival at Hunt Country Vineyards in Branchport, N.Y., and on Oct. 13, they joined the staff of the Penn Stater Hotel at the Penn State-Wisconsin game. The students are enrolled in a catering class taught by Chef Michael J.

Master Baker Didier Rosada, one of the most respected professionals in the field of artisan bread baking, will visit Pennsylvania College of Technology's campus Oct. 24-26 as part of the William C. Butler Lecture Series. During his visit, Rosada will work extensively with students in the college's School of Hospitality in hands-on laboratories. On Oct.

Students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality will learn about planning a menu, helping to run a kitchen, and satisfying the public in the school-operated Le Jeune Chef Restaurant this fall, as they take turns as student managers in the restaurant's kitchen. Students enrolled in two classes Regional American Cuisine, which offers fare from around the U.S.

The School of Hospitality hosted "A Farewell Tribute to Peter Hellermann," longtime general manager of the school-operated Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, on Monday. The dinner featured visiting vintner Frederic Frank, of Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars on New York's Keuka Lake.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation and the college's School of Hospitality combined efforts to offer a reception honoring individuals, organizations and businesses that have established scholarships at the college. The gathering centered on a carnival-themed buffet of pastries as pleasing to the eye as to the mouth.

Four students pursuing bachelor's degrees in culinary arts and systems are completing internships this semester at the School of Hospitality's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. An internship in Le Jeune Chef is a requirement for all students in the major.

The second annual "CalJava Wedding Cake Contest," conceived by prominent cake decorator Daniel Budiman for Pennsylvania College of Technology students, is scheduled for April 30 on the college's main campus in Williamsport. Budiman is CEO of CalJava International the contest's sponsor and editor of Here Comes the Cake magazine.

Accomplished cake decorator Bartolo "Buddy" Valestro Jr., of Carlo's City Hall Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., offered a demonstration to students, alumni and the public Monday evening. Valestro remained on campus to work with cake-decorating classes Tuesday.

On-campus internships in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, operated by the School of Hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology, give culinary arts students the chance to exercise their inventiveness as they work with the kitchen's professional staff. "The emphasis in this lab is on creativity," said Fred W. Becker, dean of hospitality.
