Welfare reform, hate crimes, and the arts and how they apply to rural Pennsylvania are the topics of the next "Quarterly Forum on Emerging Rural Issues," hosted by the Pennsylvania Rural Development Council. The session, conducted via two-way, interactive videoconferencing technology, is set for Friday, March 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Internet can be a excellent learning experience but, at the same time, children can encounter pornography, sexual predators, drug and bomb-making recipes, and hate groups.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has teamed with a Williamsport-based Internet service provider to share faculty and staff expertise with residents throughout the commonwealth. Working with UpLink Internet Services, Penn College is extending information presented on its television shows to the online community.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's New Choices/New Options program, centered at the Penn College North Campus near Wellsboro, will be going on the road in March. A six-week workshop will be held at the Church of Christ, East Union Street and North Minniqua Avenue, in Canton from April 12 through May 20.

"You're the Chef," Pennsylvania College of Technology's popular television cooking series, obviously has the right recipe. The show airs Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. on WVIA, the public television station out of Pittston. In the latest Nielsen television ratings, the series won its time slot and improved the station's ratings 20 percent over the time slot's performance a year ago.

An exciting opportunity to learn more about the International Space Station is coming to Pennsylvania College of Technology. A live, interactive, satellite teleconference will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, in the College's Academic Center Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The American Tree Farm System, The Forest Stewardship Program, Penn State Cooperative Extension and Pennsylvania College of Technology will present a Woodland Owners Tax Conference at the College's North Campus, outside of Wellsboro,from 7 to9 p.m.Feb. 25. Be sure you know what you need to know when you sell timber from your woodland.

Several area high school students will be "on trial" at the Lycoming County Courthouse on Feb. 18 and 25. However, this legal experience is an educational one! The students are competing in mock trials sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division.
