The on-campus Powder Puff Football team had the last laugh last year, beating its off-campus opponents 16-14. This year, according to a game recap from Jason Bottorf, intramural/Fitness Center assistant, the off-campus women returned the favor. Amber Geckle handed off to Kim Carbaugh, who sprinted past the on-campus defense and scored the game's first touchdown.
Students in Chef Monica J. Lanczak's baking and pastry arts application class prepared goodies for Friday night's "Sweet Temptations," a fundraising event at the Best Western Inn sponsored by the Lycoming County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. For a $10 donation, visitors could sample sweet treats made by local businesses.
Two alumni from Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality will visit the college this month to talk with students about their jobs in unique hospitality niches. Shawn Sidey, who graduated in 1996 with a degree in food and hospitality management, will visit the college on Nov. 17. Sidey is a roasting supervisor for Starbucks Coffee Co.'s York Roasting Plant in York.
Brian M. McKeon, assistant professor of biology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently earned a doctorate in philosophy and medical ethics from Binghamton University. He successfully defended his dissertation, titled "The Hobgoblin of Little Minds: How the Psychology of Contradiction Explains the Cyclic Nature of Philosophy," in September.
Students in the Physician Assistant Club at Pennsylvania College of Technology raised $1,700 for a children's charity during a two-week fund-raiser in September. The money was raised through a T-shirt sale and donated to the Cancer Recovery Foundation, Children's Project.
