A $5,000 scholarship has been awarded to a collision repair technology major at Pennsylvania College of Technology, one of only six students selected in the third year of the national competition. John S. Ellis III, of Morrisdale, was among those to receive a CCC Michael Salvatore Memorial Student Repair Technician Scholarship, which honors a longtime member of the CCC team.

A Penn College team of associate-degree students finished second in this week's National Association of Home Builders' Student Chapters Residential Construction Management Competition, held in conjunction with the International Builders Show in Las Vegas. Members of the two-year team are Benjamin H. Clark, Zachary T. McAllister, Michael J. Reier, Erich L. Snyder and Brian D. West.

The Student Government Association, along with the Student Activities and Residence Life offices, sponsored speaker Tim Wise on Wednesday night in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. Wise gave a lecture about "White Privilege and Dismantling Racism," covering such issues as historical scars for people of color, struggles, racial advantages for whites and racial profiling.

The American Red Cross was "extremely pleased" with the turnout for Wednesday's Bloodmobile at the Bush Campus Center, where 169 pints were collected 96 percent of the 175-pint goal. Of note also is that 37 first-time donors reached out to help others.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will be visited on Feb. 3-5 by a review team from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The site visitors will conduct a review of the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program, evaluating it for accreditation by the NLNAC.

An opening reception was held Tuesday evening for "60x60: Small Prints From Purdue University Galleries," the current exhibit on the third floor of Madigan Library. All of the images in the traveling exhibit, on display through Feb. 3 in The Gallery at Penn College, are no larger than 60 square inches. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; 2-8 p.m.

A group of Pennsylvania College of Technology students helped to raise more than $3,100 for the working poor through a recent fair-trade craft sale. To open the holiday shopping season, students pursuing bachelor's degrees in applied human services organized and staffed an on-campus sale of handmade goods from around the world through an organization called Ten Thousand Villages.

Lycoming Engines, a longtime partner of Penn College's aviation program providing scholarships to students and jobs to graduates, will be featured on the "How It's Made" show at 9 p.m. Friday on The Science Channel.

Pennsylvania College of Technology men's basketball player Craig Flint is flying high this week. For his efforts last week in wins over Penn State DuBois and Penn State Greater Allegheny, he has been awarded Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors and also garnered United States Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week honors.
