Adults 55 and older who want to learn more about using computers for fun and convenience may enroll in a noncredit course at Pennsylvania College of Technology at Wellsboro, located at Wellsboro Area High School. This easy beginner’s class, offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, introduces the computer for enjoyment purposes.

ShaleNET, a federally funded training program, recently received the Energy Leadership Award in Workforce Development at an annual awards ceremony sponsored by the Pittsburgh Business Times. ShaleNET was launched in 2010 with a $4.96 million Community Based Job Training grant awarded to Westmoreland County Community College by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration.

Through a grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, the Innovative Manufacturers’ Center partnered with Pennsylvania College of Technology to increase access to additive manufacturing among both educators and industry.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held a ceremony Friday at its Energy Technology Education Center to dedicate a drilling rig simulator that supports hands-on learning for the college’s natural gas training offerings. The simulator was purchased with U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training funds.

Eighteen dental hygienists recently completed a local-anesthesia training program offered by Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Health Sciences and Workforce Development & Continuing Education. The group completed the 30-hour training program, Local Anesthetics for the Dental Hygienist, on April 6.

A scholarship has been created at Pennsylvania College of Technology by administrators in Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College. The Penn College Workforce Development Scholarship was established by Tracy L. Brundage, assistant vice president for workforce and economic development, and Shannon M. Munro, executive director of workforce development and continuing education.

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, the national sponsor of the Building Operator Certification program that trains and certifies workers in best practices for energy efficiency, has been chosen by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a 2014 ENERGY STAR Award.

Due to the successful launch and subsequent offerings of the Team Leader/Supervisor Program, Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering the summer sessions at a reduced rate. The research-based, instructor-led program is anchored around 32 leadership competencies identified throughout multiple industry clusters across the commonwealth.

Several ShaleNET certificate training offerings at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans eligible under a VA training assistance program. The approved training courses are: Roustabout, Floor Hand and Welder’s Helper.
