Workforce Development’s Paramedic Class of 2024 held its graduation ceremony on Dec. 17 in Penn College’s Klump Academic Center Auditorium. The evening event celebrated the achievements of 10 graduates.
“Powering Pennsylvania” is the theme for the 109th Pennsylvania Farm Show, and Pennsylvania College of Technology will be in attendance, sharing its empowering possibilities. Set for Jan. 4-11 at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, the largest indoor agricultural event in the country attracts hundreds of vendors and thousands of exhibitors showcasing their skills. The show welcomes farmers, families and food lovers. Admission is free.
The business and industry professionals in Penn College’s Workforce Development are finalizing a full fall semester of networking and promoting their many services and program areas. Team members have engaged in a number of events, including Schaedler Yesco’s Tech School Expo in Pittsburgh, the MANTEC Smart Manufacturing Conference in York, Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center’s Manufacturing Day in Wilkes-Barre, and the Manufacturers’ Association Expo in York.
Pennsylvania College of Technology has been awarded a $600,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to develop a new sector apprenticeship in transportation. The apprenticeship will train bus mechanics, addressing the shortage of skilled bus service technicians and ensuring the consistent operation of public transit in urban and rural areas across the commonwealth.
The Plastics Innovation & Resource Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology conducted a flurry of workshops in October, delivering training to 25 professionals, representing 14 companies, four states and Canada. The three workshops – Color Science & Weathering, Plastic Materials & Processing Fundamentals, and Rotational Molding & Advanced Materials – featured lectures and extensive hands-on experience in Penn College’s industry-standard labs.
Members of the Central PA Chamber of Commerce visited Pennsylvania College of Technology on Wednesday for an “Inside Jobs Tour,” one of the chamber’s monthly outings to educate members on area businesses and organizations. In addition to informative campus presentations and tours, the 22 guests enjoyed a lunch catered by Le Jeune Chef Restaurant.
Jason K. Embick has been appointed executive director of the Clean Energy Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Embick had been serving on the Clean Energy Center’s leadership team as director of training operations. He joined the center in 2015 and has fulfilled multiple roles, including instructional specialist, special projects coordinator and assistant director.
For those looking to sharpen their computer skills while learning something new, Workforce Development at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering Microsoft Office courses this fall. Classes will be held in the Center for Business & Workforce Development on the college’s main campus in Williamsport.
Fifteen Pennsylvania College of Technology paramedic students are part of the health care team at the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series. The students work under the guidance of certified paramedics from Susquehanna Regional Emergency Medical Services, who are on hand in the stadiums to provide for the emergency health needs of spectators at the nationally televised youth sports event, which began Aug. 14 and concludes Aug. 25.
State Rep. Peter G. Schweyer (D-Allentown), majority chair of the House Education Committee, visited Pennsylvania College of Technology on Tuesday, gaining insights into the college’s unique educational model, impressive academic facilities and exciting new initiatives. He was accompanied on his tour by his chief of staff, Nancy Wilt.
